How to Apply - Prospective Students

We are pleased that you are considering online/distance education courses at Waterloo. The following information will help guide prospective students through the application process.

Notes:
If you have previously applied to (but not taken) a course at the University of Waterloo and you would now like to take a Waterloo course, please email the Registrar's Office or call 519-888-4567, ext. 33548 for information on how to proceed, avoiding an unnecessary non-refundable application fee.

If you have previously applied to (and taken) a course at the University of Waterloo (on campus or through online/distance education), you will need to apply for re-admission by submitting an Application for Re-Admission form (Admission section of the Registrar's Office forms site) to the Registrar's Office. Deadline dates for each term are on the Re-Admission form.

To view course descriptions and pre- or anti-requisite requirements, please see the Undergraduate Calendar. Note that some (e.g., some courses in Accounting and Financial Management, Computer Science) are restricted to students in certain degree programs. Admission to the University does not guarantee course enrolment.

Your status at the University of Waterloo

To determine your status at the University of Waterloo, please read the following 4 options and click on the one that is most appropriate for you:

1.  Degree Studies

     If you:

  • have never applied to or taken a course at Waterloo and
  • wish to pursue a degree

       Refer to these degree study application procedures

2.  Letter of Permission

     If you:

  • have never applied to or taken a course at Waterloo and
  • are pursuing a degree at another university

       Refer to these letter of permission application procedures

3.  Post Degree

     If you:

  • have never applied to or taken a course at Waterloo and
  • hold a degree from another university and
  • do not wish to pursue another degree at this time and
  • are taking a course for general interest or upgrading

       Refer to these post degree application procedures

4.  Non Degree

     If you:

  • have never applied to or taken a course at Waterloo and
  • do not hold a degree from any university and
  • do not wish to pursue a degree at Waterloo and
  • wish to take courses towards a Diploma or Certificate

       Refer to these non degree application procedures
