Spring 2012 Enrolled Students

Welcome to Online Learning, Spring 2012

To get started for the spring term, complete the following steps.

Step 1: Get your textbooks
Step 2: Examination arrangements
Step 3: Confirm email and mailing address
Step 4: Review system requirements
Step 5: Information for current and previous students
Step 6: Log on to your course
Optional: Course CDs/DVDs

Note: Spring term courses are available the first day of the spring term,
May 1, 2012.

Step 1
Get your textbooks

Check the Waterloo BookStore to determine what textbooks are required for your course. You can also call the BookStore at 519-888-4673 (1-866-330-7933 toll-free within Canada) or send an email message for information. To purchase books from the BookStore, you must use their online ordering system.

Step 2
Provide examination arrangement information

In courses with a final exam, all students (including on-campus students) must provide spring term examination arrangement information, using Quest, by May 18, 2012. Note that this is an online process, not available to you for the spring term until April 16, 2012. Information is detailed in the Examinations section of this website.
Spring 2012 Online Course Exam Dates
Students writing on campus at Waterloo August 3, 4
Students writing at exam centres other than at Waterloo August 4

Step 3
Confirm your email address, mailing address, and phone number

The Centre for Extended Learning (and the University) communicates with you throughout the term. Messages from your instructor, exam details and other information will be sent to you using your watiam@uwaterloo.ca email address. Course materials and marked assignments may be mailed to you. Keep your contact information, including email address, your postal address, and phone number updated online.

Check your watiam@uwaterloo.ca email regularly - it's important!

3a) Keep your watiam@uwaterloo.ca email address* updated online using WatIAM. For instructions, refer to 'change my email address' within Quest.

3b) Keep your postal address information and phone number updated online using Quest (refer to 'add/change my address information' and 'change my phone number' instructions).

*This is the official email address the University community will use to communicate with you as a student. Please review the University's guidelines regarding email communication between the institution and its student body.

Step 4
Review system requirements

Review the system requirements for online courses to determine which configurations are necessary for you to have. Note that Internet access is required for all online courses.

Step 5
Review information for current and previous students

Review all the details for current and previous students on this website for administrative information about exams, fee payment, final grades, important dates, and how to use Quest.

There is also important information about WatCards (student ID cards) and how they are used to access UW Library materials.

Step 6
Log on to your course on May 1

Log on to your course, using Waterloo LEARN, to review assignment due dates and submission methods. Spring term courses will be available beginning the first day of the term, May 1, 2012.

Optional Course CDs/DVDs

Please note: we no longer automatically send out lecture content on CD/DVD that is delivered online. You have two options if you want the lecture content on a disc:

1) There is a DOWNLOAD link provided in courses which have such content (not all courses do). You can then burn your own CD/DVD.

2) If you want us to do the burning, you can order a CD/DVD for a nominal shipping/handling fee.

If your course has required materials, these materials will still be automatically shipped. Check our course database to see if your course has such materials.
